so, i guess this is an ephemera altered book, lol. funny, fun, and unexpected, you never know where this art it will take you.
it's still relatively flat
some pockets using ancient pages and vintage game cards
these images are cut from an 1881 children's storybook. i must say here that i could never cut/alter any old book unless it was beyond repair. sometimes the cover is in good shape and the pages are torn, folded dirty, or visa verse.
some pages to journal on with vintage ledger papers
more pockets
it's flat, it good, yea! so far, lol!
these books take a long time to complete, there are a lot of steps with gluing and planning and, once in a while, unexpected disasters as well. lots of fun, please try at least 1 altered book! this one could hold family ephemera and copies of family photos of long past relatives. couldn't you see all those interesting and precious items tucked the pockets? all in one place, and easy to share, i love these books! anyway, going well so far, glue is drying and it is fathers day, we must have a bar-b-que!
enjoy and celebrate with your family! i'll be back home burning the midnight oil, if you are a "night-owl", think of me! -rebecca
thought i would share this for fun:
the beginnings of my next altered book. it is a slightly rough copy of an 1881 arithmetic book, we'll see where it goes. i feel inspired today, i'm getting to work.
i have listed a few new things in my etsy and artfire shops if you would like to peek. since i am still de-stashing, i have put together some goodies for some themed journals with bingo card covers.
enjoy your night! -rebecca
i know, i know, shame on me, no posts for a month! geesh! well i am going to show you what has been happening, in pictures, grab a cuppa, here we go:
owen keeps growing,
he had his 2nd. birthday, time flies! we planted planted some flowers for jenny for mothers day.
meagen is getting older, she had her 21st.
and we all turned out for megs regional special olympics, she got a gold and silver, and is heading to state.
we've been having gorgeous weather so have been "hitting" the pool.
jen, our oldest, with owen, she's a great momma.
Meg's team posin' and carrying their banner in the opening ceremonies at fort lewis. this is a huge hanger packed with athletes, families, soldiers and celebrities.
meagen in action, on the left, pulling in a silver. a rare moment at these events, i actually get to see her close-up and i get a picture with her! yea meg, you did good!
and, our youngest, jess, is now a a high honors graduate from high school and a freshman in college. she is continuing on to become a special ed teacher, she has a passion for these kids. when she was 3 and 4 years old, she would drag all of her dolls and stuffed animals out and instead of playing house, jess would line her "pupils" up and play teacher. when she was 4 we bought the mcmillan study lessons, they would come once a month, and every morning for 3 hours, she would sit and study. she had to do everything meg did, meg went to school and jess had school too, meg wore glasses, so jess had to wear glasses (we would get children's sunglasses and take the lenses out) as she got older, she would teach meg and meg's friend kelley, from these very lessons she learned from.
she has been coaching the special olympics team for 2 years now, and has been a tutor and assistant in the special ed classroom at the middle school for 4 years. she is a truly focused person, and an amazing daughter. i don't usually go on like this, but jess deserves the recognition! i love you jess, you did it, now go have some FUN! did i mention, she will not let us take pictures of her? she did for graduation, thank god, but i dare not blog any except this one of her getting her diploma, you can see why, we can't see her! geesh!
it has been a long spring and a great start to summer. with all the excitement and events behind us, i will now buckle down and see if i can get some work done. well, until my sister comes down next month, then i will need to play! can't wait polly!
thanks everyone! i must now hit the sack, it's almost 5 am, good night.-rebecca
hi, hi! well, i didn't get this journal listed over the weekend like i had hoped, but, i did get our yard cleaned up and the pots planted- yea!
a really talented and thoughtful client sent me some pictures of what she created with one of these ephemera journals that she had purchased. it was wonderful to see the very dear book she created! it was filled with photos of her family, of days gone by, the vintage ephemera was the perfect backdrop, i am so excited over the idea, i'm putting together some for my family, i'll share some photos when i get a chance. here is the new ephemera journal #4, it is packed with goodies to work with. original ephemera ranging from 1873 up to the 1960's:
the outside cover is created from a page of an 1873 childrens book.
the dividers are index cards from the 1930's, i've left the # uncovered
on the backs. they are thick and sturdy, what has happened to the
quality of goods now-a-days? geesh, i bought some small index cards
from the store and they are so flimsy!
the inside from 1892 sheet music. the facing page is a vellum envelope
with the full alphebet squares(double-sided) of a 1930's game called "dig" .
a 1930's bingo card with pocket and a 1924 "rooks" playing card
on this page i have attached some vintage "contact bridge" score pad
sheets...
and, on the reverse, some 1929 small ledger papers. you can refill
these papers with others in your stash, when these are filled. the
facing pages are from a victorian photo album "carte-de-visite" page.
these photo holders are thick. i have slipped some vintage playing
cards into them, they may be replaced with photos, pictures or
"whatever"

the early 1900's, attaced with vintage buttons and lace.

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts. -Washington Irving
oh my gosh, we've had a busy time around here little owens birthday was saturday- 2 years old! it goes by so fast! and meg had her regionals for special olympics on sunday. both days were great for the events, the rain held off until we were done with each- phew!
i listed a few more vintage supplies in my etsy shop and my artfire studio, i will also add some to the blog for sale items. here are the newest kits:
"boy, oh boy!"add-on combined with...
" red wagon" pocket pages kit, which creates...
this pocket pages min album, can create this...
"boy, oh boy!" pocket pages mini album
pages 1 and 2
with 12 on-page photo pockets and 4 between-pages photo
pockets
pages 3 and 4
with a total of 16 double-sided tags 4 of which also have
sweet vintage images from a 1933 child's reader. A little
matchbook album with 5 pages is tucked into this pocket
on page 4.
the little matchbook album with 5 pages
there is tons of room for photos! these double sided papers
from cosmo cricket have the cutest names: "cheerful charlie"
"mischievous max", " jumping jack", "silly sam", and "dapper
dan" !
pocket tags with tabs and large photo corners.
so, just thought i would share these new items listed i use these in my ephemera journals, which, as a matter of fact, i'm wondering if it might be better if i bound these particular journals with notebook rings so one may actually take the goodies out and alter them? hmm... anyway, drop me a line and tell me what you think.
here are the new goodies:
this is a great bundle of ancient pages of ledgers, children's story
books, a play program, music books and blank check book. they
date mostly from the 1890's but a couple of pages are from 1919.
so, i went to the swap-o-rama and found an album from the 1930's
with attached family photos. i liked the scrapbook (album) and
these photos are a bonus, are they cute or what? i actually had to
peal them off the pages, so the black paper is still somewhat
attached to the backs, but the photos are in wonderful condition
for being 70 some years old!
these are game markers from a 19o2 and a 1920's "lotto" games.
the 1902 pieces are larger then the other but, they both have
these numbers imprinted into them, not just stamped.
hope everyone is able to enjoy their day, for my fellow
north-westerners- woohoo! is it spring or what? love these sunny
days!
i shall return, thanks for visiting , all of you and for your
emails and kind words, i love you guys! -rebecca
